As requested, I have uploaded, after long last, some more
pictures to our Photo Gallery. You can see the new images by clicking on
the album entitled: Pocket Full o’ Sunshine. As the title implies, they
were shot on our sunny days. When the sun pops out, so do all the
people, and we deem it safe to venture out with our camera to snap some
memories. So please, take a gander!
Some recent good news: we got out of the lease on our apartment 3 months early. After most of our team members returned home, the monthly rent, having previously been split 7, then 6, then 5, and then 4 ways, had to be split 3 ways between John, John, and myself. Initially the contract had been for a total of 6 months, which we agreed to because Jake and Levi were going to be staying until the end of the contract, but with their return home, the apartment was just a burden of an expense to us who remained. So some of the pictures in the album show a thorough cleaning of the apartment, a job that took up an entire afternoon. John, Lanie, and I worked with an abundance of elbow grease to get the place sparkling clean. The apartments served their purpose, but it is great that we are no longer paying for something we are no longer using. This was an answer to prayer, and we are very glad to be out of the lease.
And then there was a snake sighting on the property. John and the Aeta workers found and killed a poisonous snake that was nearly 4 feet long. I won’t go into details, but we did document the dead snake, and there are multiple snapshots of the gruesome remains.
The CR is almost completed, and we have tiled and grouted it. John is installing the toilet today, and we are hoping to have it up and running very soon. It will be very nice to have a functioning bathroom on the 2nd level. And there are lovely cement stairs leading up from the new CR all the way to our place at the top of the mountain. We are very thankful for the paved walkway, as it is much nicer than the mud.
On an aside, we just received that Jake Duncan’s Pappy passed away on September 12th, only 8 days after Jake’s return home. We send our love and condolences to the Duncan family during this time, and thank Jesus that Jake was able to spend some time with his grandpa before he passed. We know that we will see him again, on the other side.
We send our love to all of you back home, and we will continue to keep you up to date on the happenings here in Olongapo. Please continue to keep us in your prayers. Grace and peace, Kels for both
