I Lift My Eyes Up

We all gathered for Sunday morning fellowship on the Mercyland today. Scott Penwell coined the name, and it is what we call Mercy In Action’s piece of property that we are living on and where the clinic will be constructed. John and I made pancakes and eggs, Ian and Rose Penwell contributed banana mango fruit salad, and the Ehler’s made delicious loafs of swirled cinnabread, a pan of eggs with green peppers and onions, and steaming cups of freshly brewed coffee. It was quite the breakfast spread, and between our team [John and Levi were still at the hospital, so they were not in attendance], midwives, Penwells, Ehlers, and the rest, it was a full house.

After breakfast at the Ehler’s, we gathered around on benches and began to worship the Lord together. And the songs we sang took on a whole new meaning to me. I lift my eyes up, Unto the mountains, Where does my help come from? My help comes from You, Maker of heaven, Creator of the Earth. Oh how I need You Lord, You are my only hope, You are my only prayer… As I lifted up my eyes, I saw the lush green mountains, with flowing grasses bending gently in the wind and a bright blue sky above me. I was surrounded by mountains, beautiful mountains. The Creator of heaven and earth seemed so near, so real to me in a way that I could only have imagined prior to singing out those words on this glorious day. I drank in the wonderfulness of it all, and the words became very real to me.

Now I am sitting in St. Jude hospital with John and John, posting yet another update. John Langham is on the mend, and we hope that he will soon join us again. It has been lonesome without him and Levi. They are very attentive to John here, and he has been put in one of the VIP rooms. Thank you all for your prayers. It is good to see him looking more like himself again.
