Hullo World!

Here is a long awaited shout out to all of you who are anxiously awaiting some news from the team in Olongapo! This is going to be a short entry for you, but all is well, we are safely settled and dry in the midst of the rainy season. We had a bit of a hard time on our flight [some of you heard about our ordeal at LAX - more on that later], but we are now in the Philippines.

Please pray for John Langham, as he is down and out with a fever at this time. We ask for a speedy recovery – please join us in prayer. Also, we cannot begin any progress on the clinic due to permits. MIA had a cease and desist from the government, and we cannot build any permanent structures on the property until the correct permits are obtained; and these are taking a long time to get. Still, we are keeping busy as we are constructing the guys’ bamboo hut. Apparently, we can build structures from natural resources, but we can’t build concrete without the permit.

It is hot, humid, unbelievably sticky, and muddy at the moment, because the earth is being drenched by pouring rain. Yup, rainy season just commenced last night. Our huts keep us dry, and provide shelter from the rain. We are getting acclimated to the culture and heated temperatures, and have found a relatively clean portion of the river to bathe in and chill out – we dug it out and it is surrounded by river stones in the shape of a circle. We learned how to weave the roof of the bamboo huts that we are living in, and spent most of yesterday working on the guys’ hut.

I have limited internet access and battery power, so I’ll write more updates at a later time. I just wanted to throw this out there for everyone. Again, we greatly appreciate your prayers and support! Oh, FYI, John, John, Levi, and Jake all went in together to purchase a mode of transportation, and we now have a used 2010, shiny black Honda 100 scooter, costing about $750 USD. Pictures and more to come. Love to everyone at Home! Kels for both
