Portrait of Princeton

During my spring break, Dad gave us the grand tour of his beloved hometown. It was John's first visit - a welcoming introduction. Over the course of two days, we ambled around Big Springs, strolled into Newsom's Old Mill Store, and enjoyed scrumptious cupcakes from Mrs. McLovet's adorable little cupcake shop - because "there is always room for a cupcake." Newsom's smelled like a preserved piece of history. Fragrances of hickory smoked hams, crinkly old newspapers, tanned hides, cloves and spices and candies - wonderful earthy scents wafted through the doorway as we stepped inside the dimly lit general store. As we explored the quaint town, Dad reminisced about his history. He pondered and recollected fragments of memories. While we were there, he reunited with his half-brother, and I met my uncle for the first time. It was a weekend of pleasant surprises and was sprinkled generously good ol Kentucky charm. Dad reconnected with his roots, and I had the privilege of hearing and seeing him engage with the past and the present. It was an honor.

  1. Your words are precious, and the pictures only add to them. P'ton has a charm and quaintness all its own.
